Monochrome Daisy Bouquet Free Crochet Pattern

CompatNest: Cozy Knits & Yarn Haven • October 29, 2026

Introduction

This monochrome daisy bouquet is a bold, beginner-friendly crochet project that turns simple solid granny squares into a striking black-and-white bunch. Each daisy is made from six small white granny squares ringed around a single black center square, so the whole flower is built from the same easy motif you already know and love. Worked in chunky t-shirt yarn with an 8 mm hook, the squares grow quickly and the finished daisies have a satisfying, slightly raised granny texture with crisp white petals and a graphic black middle. It is perfect for anyone new to crochet who wants a statement piece for a vase, a gift, or a Y2K-inspired room, and the flat faces stay light and unfussy while the black yarn-wrapped stems give the bouquet its clean, modern look.

Materials Needed

  • Yarn: T-shirt yarn (super bulky, ribbon about 5–7 mm wide), cotton or cotton-blend. White: about 90 yd. Black: about 40 yd (centers, stems, leaves, and binding wrap).
  • Hook: 8 mm (US L-11).
  • Notions: Tapestry needle, matching black sewing thread and a sharp needle, 12-gauge floral wire (five 12 in / 30.5 cm lengths), craft glue, scissors, and a tape measure.
  • Finished size: Each daisy about 6.5 in (16.5 cm) across. The full bouquet of five daisies is about 9 in (23 cm) wide x 14 in (35.5 cm) tall including stems.

Abbreviations

  • hdc – half double crochet
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sp / sps – space / spaces
  • MR – magic ring
  • rep – repeat
  • sts – stitches

Gauge

One solid granny square measures 2 x 2 in (5 x 5 cm) after R3. To check, work one square and measure it flat; if it is larger, go down a hook size, and if smaller, go up a hook size.

Tips Before You Start

  • Keep your tension relaxed and even so each square stays flat and square; t-shirt yarn shows uneven stitches clearly.
  • Count your 3-dc groups at the end of every round — each side of the square should have the same number of clusters.
  • Leave a 6 in tail on every white petal square so you have plenty of yarn for whipstitching the ring.
  • Match corners carefully when joining petals and centers; the black square should sit centered with its corners meeting the seams between petals.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Center Square (Black) – make 5

R1: MR, ch3 (counts as dc), ch2, [3 dc, ch2] x3, 2 dc, sl st to top of ch3 (12 dc, 4 ch-2 sps).

R2: Sl st to next sp, ch3, [2 dc, ch2, 3 dc] in sp, ch1, *[3 dc, ch2, 3 dc] in next sp, ch1; rep from * around, sl st to top of ch3 (24 dc, 4 ch-2 sps, 4 ch-1 sps).

R3: Sl st to next sp, ch3, [2 dc, ch2, 3 dc] in corner sp, ch1, 3 dc in ch-1 sp, ch1, *[3 dc, ch2, 3 dc] in corner sp, ch1, 3 dc in ch-1 sp, ch1; rep from * around, sl st to top of ch3, fasten off (36 dc).

Petal Square (White) – make 30

Work exactly as the Center Square R1–R3 in White, then fasten off leaving a 6 in tail.

Daisy Assembly – make 5

Whipstitch 6 White petal squares edge-to-edge in a ring, joining each square to its two neighbors along one full side. Then whipstitch one Black center square to the inner edges of all 6 petals, matching corners. Weave in ends.

Stem – make 5

Cut 12-gauge floral wire to 12 in and bend 1 in at the top into a small loop. Cut 2 yd of Black t-shirt yarn per stem. Apply a small dab of glue at the loop and wrap the yarn tightly around the wire from the top loop down to 1 in from the bottom, gluing the end. Insert the looped top of the stem behind the Black center square and stitch the loop to the back of the square with matching thread.

Leaf (Black, optional) – make 10

Row 1: Ch6, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, sl st in last ch, fasten off. Sew 2 leaves per stem at 4 in and 7 in below the flower.

Assembly and Finishing

Arrange the 5 daisies, gather the stems, and wrap all stems together with the remaining Black yarn for 3 in below the flowers, then tie off. Trim the wire ends even. Weave in any remaining ends. Block the daisy faces lightly with steam, but do not flatten the petals.

Pro Tips and Variations

  • Swap the black center for a deep charcoal or navy for a softer monochrome look.
  • Make a single daisy on a shorter stem as a bag charm or brooch.
  • Use a contrasting yarn for the binding wrap to add a pop of color at the bouquet handle.
